WASHINGTON, D.C. – Mayors of so-called sanctuary cities were thrilled Sunday morning when President Hillary Rodham Clinton released a statement calling America a “sanctuary nation.”

In the release, Clinton affirmed the core American value of supporting immigrants: “Now, as always, America will provide shelter and opportunity to those who need it.”

Pundits immediately interpreted Clinton's announcement as a pointed rebuke to the anti-immigrant, nativist, and racist rhetoric that has resurged thanks to the alt-right, with many commentators saying Clinton's idea of America as a "sanctuary nation" is firmly in line with her sensible, humane and economically beneficial immigration policies.

But Fox News' Bill O'Reilly claimed Clinton's welcoming language indicated "her desperate desire to lure billionaires back to the United States," noting ultra-rich men are fleeing America "in droves."  Megyn Kelly responded that no one in America missed the Koch brothers or Russian emigree Donald Trump.

"They're tax-evading octopi sucking the life-blood out of this government. Let them stay gone," she said.
